Transfer deal for Rangers star Calvin Bassey likely next week

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey’s future can be decided in the next week, according to a report published by the Telegraph.

The 22-year-old has been attracting interest from a number of clubs including Dutch outfit Ajax and Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

The report states that Ajax are offering more money as things stand with an agreement likely to be in place within the next week as talks start to accelerate.

If you have looked at the performances of Bassey in the 2021-22 season, you will understand why Ajax and multiple English Premier League clubs are in for him.

The last season was a breakthrough campaign for Nigeria International. His consistent performances made him one of the fan favourites at the Ibrox Stadium.

Despite his preference to play as a left-back, Bassey can also play as a third central defender according to the setup and the tactics implemented by his manager.

He was one of the standout players for the Rangers in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt despite being on the losing side.

In the Europa League last season, the 22-year-old averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 0.9 blocks and 1.6 clearances per game, according to Whoscored.

Those numbers show why the Rangers must not let go of their star man for cheap because it will not going to be an easy task to replace a player of his calibre.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have tabled an offer for a new central midfielder after a Celtic mix-up was clarified.
