Rangers starlet Ben Williamson could be in for dazzling future if Dundee loan goes well

Rangers have confirmed that promising young midfielder Ben Williamson has joined Dundee on loan in an exciting step up for him.

The 20-year-old has already had three loans away from Ibrox, which have so far produced mixed results for the starlet.

Rangers confirmed via Twitter on Friday afternoon (15 July) that he had signed a new contract and will join Dundee, with Football Scotland reporting that the new deal is a one-year extension.

Williamson spent the second half of last season in the Championship with Raith Rovers and finally found regular minutes and form again, leading to a significant step up with newly relegated Dundee.

After a challenging 2021/22 season, the young midfielder could still be in for a bright future if he hits the ground running at Dens Park.

Williamson profiled

Although he is yet to make his Rangers bow, Williamson still has a good amount of senior experience for his age.

His first spell away from Ibrox saw him head out on a five-month loan move to relegation-threatened Arbroath, and to say he impressed would be an understatement.

Williamson helped guide Arbroath to Championship survival and was voted the club’s Young Player of the Year as well as being promoted to the Rangers first team for the end of the season.

His next move would be to Premiership side Livingston, but he made just five Premiership appearances, getting sent off in his final appearance against Dundee United.

Rangers recalled him early and sent him to Raith, where he settled down again and made 14 league appearances as they narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

The Scotland Under-21 international is clearly talented, but his Livingston move clearly came to soon for him.

However, if he can succeed at Championship level again and help Dundee back into the Premiership, he can still make the transition to the top flight.

In other Rangers news, Malik Tilman is on the verge of joining The Gers from Bayern Munich.
