Rangers on verge of transfer announcement as Malik Tillman arrives in UK

Rangers are on the verge of announcing the signing of USA attacker Malik Tilman from Bayern Munich, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported via their website on Friday (15 July) that Tillman, 20, is set to join the Scottish Cup winners on an initial loan that includes an option-to-buy clause.

The Scottish Express reported earlier on Friday that the attacking midfielder has arrived in Manchester to undergo a medical with the Gers and he’ll then join up with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad for their pre-season friendly with Blackpool on Saturday (16 July).

Deal all but done

It’s unlikely there’s much else to report on the Tillman deal now so fans just need to sit tight and wait for the imminent announcement of the American’s arrival.

He’ll be van Bronckhorst’s fifth addition of the summer transfer window and is arguably one of the most exciting with that option-to-buy clause really raising the quality of the agreement with Bayern.

Tillman is only 20 and has a lot of room to grow.

He’s already a full USA international and played seven times for Bayern last season.

The attacker is versatile too. He’s able to play up front, as a number 10 or in the centre of the midfield while he’s also had the odd appearance out wide in Germany.

Tillman also played in the Champions League last term and while his senior football experience is mostly made up of substitute appearances, he’s still done it at one of the best teams in the world and played for – and against – some of the best players.

Seeing Joe Aribo leave was a blow.

He was one of our best players last season – if not the best – and replacing him isn’t going to be easy.

But USA playmaker Tillman could go a long way towards filling the new Aribo void at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have tabled an offer for a new central midfielder after a Celtic mix-up was clarified.
