Rangers medical underway as Malik Tillman misses Bayern Munich training session
Mailk Tillman’s medical with Rangers is now underway as he closes in on a loan move from Bayern Munich, according to Kicker.
The German magazine reported on their website on Friday (15 July) that the USA international, 20, missed first-team training on Wednesday (13 July) and is now set to complete a loan move to Glasgow that includes an option for it to be made permanent.
Up until heading to the UK to complete his move to Ibrox, Tillman had been training in the Bayern academy to ensure he didn’t get injured.
If this was a straight loan deal, we’d be a bit annoyed.
In recent years, we’ve had a number of failed loanees and a reason behind that could be that there’s no hope of a future at Ibrox once their temporary contracts expire.
But with Tillman, he’ll be treated just the same as every other player and if anything, Giovanni van Bronckhorst will try harder to make it work for the German-born USA international because he’ll no doubt want to trigger that option-to-buy clause next summer.
It’s not every day you sign an international attacker from Bayern Munich.
Tillman is young and inexperienced in top-flight senior football but he still played seven times for Bayern Munich in all competitions last season and one of those outings came in a Champions League win against Barcelona.
He’s versatile too, which helps a lot and should mean he’ll get more game-time next season than a usual youngster on loan.
Tillman can play as a striker, attacking midfielder or central midfielder while he’s also made appearances out on the left and right-wing in his time at Bayern.
Tillman is primarily a playmaker though and there’s a chance van Bronckhorst sees him as the man to fill the Joe Aribo-shaped hole in Rangers’ attack.
