View: Who is Israeli Rangers target Oscar Gloukh?

Rangers have been linked to 19-year-old Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder Oscar Gloukh – but who is the Israeli attacking midfielder?

The Israeli Under-21 international was integral to his country reaching the final of the Under-19 European Championships earlier this summer, where they lost to England.

Rangers have now been linked with a potential move for the £10million-rated attacking midfielder by the Sunday Mirror in their print edition (10 July page 74). But although he has limited experience, he does have huge potential and could be a very interesting signing?

The Daily Record’s Robbie Copeland said: “He’s known for his ability to carry the ball, ride challenges and get his team up the park.

“He’s also been described as mature far beyond his years and this is probably why he’s a first-team regular at just 18.

“A star man for Israel at youth level, it looks like just a matter of time before he earns a senior call-up and his price tag is only going to rise.

Who is Gloukh?

Amazingly, the attacking midfielder only penned his first senior contract in April, but that has not stopped the youngster from making an immediate impact with Maccabi.

He has made 10 appearances for Israel’s most decorated club, scoring three times in that run and he has also made 21 appearances for his country’s various teams, scoring four times.

Gloukh has already shown glimpses of being a two-footed player, capable of scoring with his right or left, with placement and precision or opting to simply use power to devastating effect.

The Rangers target is primarily an attacking midfielder, excelling in the number 10 role behind the striker however, Copeland has hinted at the youngster’s versatility stating he “has the physicality and maturity to play deeper”.

The midfielder is admittedly raw with only a handful of senior games under his belt, but he has the makings of a tidy, creative player who is calm in front of goal with his performances in the under-19 tournament being an example of his talent.

The reported transfer fee is hefty but the load is lightened when you take into consideration the incoming £10m from Southampton for the outgoing midfielder, Joe Aribo.

Signing Gloukh does seem a risk at this current time, but with what he has shown in his short career and the need for injected creativity with Ianis Hagi out with injury until at least 2023, it seems a risk worth taking.

In other news, Rangers have been linked to Borussia Dortmund winger, Gio Reyna.
