Rangers already at work on new targets after last-gasp Tom Lawrence steal off Sheffield United

A late offer from Rangers caused Tom Lawrence to “change his mind” on his expected Sheffield United move, according to The 4th Official.

The ex-Derby captain is now the latest arrival at Ibrox on a free transfer, hot on the heels of the Antonio Colak deal being completed on Thursday (7 July).

European football and manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst were two key factors in convincing him to jilt the Blades at the last minute.

The respected Scottish football source T4O reported on Patreon on Friday morning regarding 28-year-old Lawrence: “I asked a couple of my sources about this and it seems that a late offer from Rangers sealed the deal.”

And further additions may be just around the corner as the club are reportedly working on other targets right now.

T4O went on: “There are other targets being worked on at the moment and I won’t be surprised if it all comes together rather fast.”

It’s taken a while but this is what fans want during a summer transfer window, and despite the imminent exit of Joe Aribo things are looking up.

An exodus was feared as the past season approached its conclusion, so to only lose the Nigerian and replace him with a free transfer is not bad going.

Colak was a struggle but he’s now a Light Blue, while Lawrence was much quicker, and with further targets apparently possible quickly the squad is starting to shape up.

The addition of John Souttar also can’t be underestimated despite being common knowledge for six months, so the club’s business could be looking very strong within a few weeks.

If Gio could be heading into the season with a couple more signings brought in and the current squad suffering no further exits he will be feeling pretty confident of not only his chances to take this side into the Champions League group stage, but also mounting a new title challenge.

There is still some way to go and clubs may test the Gers’ resolve on the likes of Calvin Bassey and Alfredo Morelos but on current evidence this is positive progress.

In other Rangers news, a move or a new contract could be on the cards for one Ibrox star, and the possibility of both is also in play.
