James McAtee profile ideal for Rangers, GvB must make move sooner than later
Rangers are interested in signing Manchester City wonderkid James McAtee in the ongoing transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.
The Gers are coming off the back of an impressive season where they won the Scottish Cup and finished as runners-up in the UEFA Europa League.
Rangers have been in the market to sign an attacking player ahead of the next campaign and it seems that now they’ve turned their attention towards McAtee.
However, this is not the first time when the Scottish club have been interested in signing the youngster as they were also keen in making a move in January earlier this year which never materialised [Football Scotland].
Rangers definitely need more attacking threat going into the next campaign, especially after the struggles in the second half of the last season, largely because of an injury to Ianis Hagi.
Therefore, signing someone like McAtee would not only ease the burden of creativity from Hagi but it will also give more options for manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst to choose from.
However, the deal is unlikely to be an easy one, especially considering Guardiola’s record when it comes to dealing with wonderkids.
We have already seen in the past what he did with Phil Foden when other clubs were interested in making a move for him.
Therefore, it will be very surprising to see the former Barcelona manager allowing the McAtee to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.
In the recently concluded U23 season, McAtee scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in 23 games. He can play both as a deep-lying playmaker and an attacking midfielder based on his skills on the ball [Transfermarkt].
Hagi for sure would be one of those thankful for this signing.
