Rangers striker Rory Wilson to complete Aston Villa move imminently
Rory Wilson’s move from Rangers to Aston Villa is set to be completed on Saturday 2 July according to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell.
The 16-year-old underwent his Villa medical on Thursday 30 June ahead of a deal worth £350k which could rise to £1million.
Campbell reported via his personal Twitter account on Friday 1 July that the young striker will travel to Birmingham in order to finalise a move to Steven Gerrard’s side, where he will initially play for Villa’s under-23 side.
This is a shame for Rangers to be losing one of their most sought-after talents, with the 16-year-old striker catching the eye whilst playing for the Gers youth sides.
The sad reality of losing players to Premier League sides is not just exclusively for first-team players.
The draw of playing in England’s top-tier, along with the money offered south of the border often means players cannot pass on the opportunity to leave Ibrox.
Rangers have had plenty of success stories come through their academy in recent years and then Gers should really do more to prevent players like Wilson from leaving the club before they’ve even made an impact on the first team.
Wilson would’ve realistically had a much better chance of playing first-team football had he remained at Ibrox.
Young players need to be featuring regularly in first-team football if they want to develop and really play at the highest level.
It would not be a shock to see Wilson loaned out by Villa in the coming years in order for the youngster to gain more experience.
Rangers must make more of an effort to convince young players like Wilson to remain at Ibrox.
