Rangers' Kemar Roofe could get chance if Alfredo Morelos leaves
Alfredo Morelos could well be on his way out of Rangers this summer which would leave a big hole in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad.
The Colombian international is attracting interest from La Liga side Sevilla and his representatives think that the Spanish coast is the most likely destination for him this summer [Estadio Deportivo].
Despite their maintained interest though, no formal offer has been submitted to the Light Blues yet but it can’t be ruled out before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.
Should the 26-year-old exit Glasgow for good at any stage this summer, van Bronckhorst would likely delve into the transfer market to sign a replacement first-choice number nine but he shouldn’t forget the talent he already has at Ibrox.
Jamaican international Kemar Roofe has spent the majority of his time at Rangers sitting on the bench behind Morelos and only getting the rare start when the Colombian was either injured or suspended.
As a result, he has been unable to generate some proper momentum and run of form to start hitting the kind of form that made the Bears sign him in the first place.
Morelos’ exit may well bring a new challenger to the throne but if Roofe is given the trust and time to find his feet, then he could be the man to score the goals that take us back to the top in Scotland.
Even if such a thing does occur, we still need to make another signing up top because Roofe is the only senior figure we have left in that area and we can’t be relying on young Tony Weston if the Jamaican gets injured.
But with Roofe staying around Auchenhowie, we don’t need to splash bucketloads of cash on a new striker even if Morelos decides to leave the club.
