Rangers news: Rory Wilson arrives at Glasgow hospital for Aston Villa medical

Rangers sensation Rory Wilson has been spotted arriving at Ross Hall hospital in Glasgow ahead of a medical with Aston Villa, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported via their website on Tuesday (28 June) that Wilson, 16, is set to join Villa on 1 July for an agreed fee of £350,000.

It is understood that the talented young striker, who Steven Gerrard had his eye on when he was at Ibrox, was only on amateur terms at Rangers, meaning that he’s joining Premier League big-spenders Villa for a small compensation fee.

Rangers haven’t been able to do much about this, unfortunately.

Until FIFA start to protect clubs with good academies more, there’ll always be players quitting Ibrox and Auchenhowie to go south of the border – or elsewhere in the world – for minimal fees.

Wilson’s just 16 years old but he must be worth way more than £350,000 if Villa are fighting so hard to sign him because an agreement has been reached to stop the despite with the Gers going to FIFA.

It’s not nice of Gerrard to do this to his former club but football is a dog-eat-dog world, unfortunately.

We just hope that there’s a good sell-on clause involved in the deal that sees Wilson head to the Premier League because if his value rises over time, it’ll land the Light Blues a nice financial windfall in the future.

Clearly, something right is being done at youth level for the likes of Wilson, Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson to emerge in recent years while we’re also excited about other youngsters like Leon King.

Rangers’ academy has had quite a dry spell in the last couple of decades with just the odd player breaking through and being a top prospect.

But it finally seems as though things are getting back on track now.

In other Rangers news, this international striker wants to move to Ibrox before the summer transfer window closes.
