Alex Rae says Lewis Ferguson would be perfect for Rangers

Former Rangers player Alex Rae has suggested that Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson would be a good replacement for Joe Aribo.

The BT Sport pundit urges the Gers to sell one of Joe Aribo, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, all of them are in the final year of their contract at Ibrox.

Rae thinks that Aribo can easily walk into a Premier League side, and Rangers must reinvest the money into signing the 22-year-old midfielder from their rivals.

“From a physical point of view, Aribo could walk into the Premier League. He’s also very good technically,” said Rae to Football Scotland (26 June).

“I’ve always said that Lewis would be a good one for Rangers. He’s still only 22 but a Scotland international now.”

Big decision

Ferguson has progressed leaps and bounds and he is a Scotland international already. But is he an ideal replacement for Joe Aribo?

First of all, Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to make a strong decision on these three players – will he want them to sign a new deal and keep them beyond the summer or look to offload and freshen the squad?

Of the three, Morelos has the best chance of securing a move abroad. The likes of Aribo and Kent could be tempted to sign a new deal at Ibrox.

Aribo was arguably one of the most consistent players for Rangers last season and scored in the final of the Europa League. The Dutchman could also look to build a strong team around him if he wants to.

At the same time, given his rise and stardom, the Bears are in a good position to demand a high transfer fee for him, and there is no shortage of suitors as well.

Rae clearly believes that Ferguson would be a good fit at the club, but Van Bronckhorst may have other ideas.

In other Rangers news, Kenny Miller thinks Aribo should head to this destination if he decides to leave Ibrox this summer.
