Kris Boyd weighs in on Rangers option regarding future of Alfredo Morelos

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes that the Scottish club does not have to sell star forward Alfredo Morelos in the ongoing transfer window.

The Columbia international has been linked with a move away from the club as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox.

However, Boyd, while talking to Sky Sports, suggested that the Gers are in a good position and can negotiate and better deal for their star man.

“It’s been every single transfer window since he’s arrived that he’s basically going to leave,” he said. “There will be a day that he does but I think Rangers are in a good position. It’s not a case that they have to sell.

“There’s obviously room to go and negotiate with teams. Every single player, especially in Scotland, have a price tag.

“If somebody wants to meet that valuation then I’m sure Rangers will speak about it.

“But as it stands, he’s a Rangers player and I’m sure he will return to pre-season ready to go and attack the Champions League qualifiers and Scottish Premiership.”

Out and out goalscorer

There is only one thing to say about Morelos during his time at the Ibrox stadium i.e. goals and only goals. If we call him a fox in the box, it won’t be wrong.

The Colombia international is considered one of the best strikers in the Scottish league and rightly so. In the recently concluded season with the Rangers, the forward scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 26 league appearances.

He has been involved in 71% of the minutes and started 76% of the matches in the 2021-22 league season [Transfermarkt].

Not only can Morelos play as a striker, he also has a big concept of teamwork inside him. He can drop deep and allow the Rangers’ wingers to make diagonal runs and attack the forward position which makes him very difficult to mark.

Those are the qualities will be hard to replace for any side and Rangers fans will be hoping that the club’s top-tier management will be able to tie the striker down to a new contract.

In other Rangers news, one of the Gers’ most impressive teenagers is getting the attention of Giovanni van Bronckhorst with his commitment to pre-season training.
