Despite £20m cost, Rangers signing Harry Winks will be massive upgrade
Rangers have been offered a chance to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks this summer, according to 90min.
The England international has become increasingly frustrated due to his lack of first-team chances at Spurs and wants to leave.
With the signing of Yves Bissouma, it seems the chances of Winks cementing a spot in the starting XI have further decreased.
According to the reports, Spurs have put a price tag of £20million on their academy graduate [The Standard].
Considering the way Winks evolved himself from the U23s to the senior squad of Tottenham, many expected the player to come into the first team in five years.
However, he has been neglected as a first-teamer by almost every manager he has played under.
In the recently concluded season with Tottenham, the England international made 19 league appearances. However, he started only 24% of those Premier League games [Transfermarkt].
Winks usually like playing as a central midfielder but has also been deployed as a defensive midfielder by Tottenham managers before.
The 26-year-old’s best quality is passing range and the ability to break down defensive organizations.
If the Rangers get the Tottenham midfielder, they will have an upgrade in the middle of the park from pretty much any player they already have in the squad as they will be getting a player who would arrive after having experience of playing in 128 Premier League matches.
In other Rangers news, the Gers want to sign this new forward as they aim to ramp up their transfer business soon.
