Falkirk join Partick Thistle in race to sign Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon

Falkirk have reportedly joined Partick Thistle in the race to sign Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon on loan this summer.

According to the Scottish Sun (June 18, 16:05), the 19-year-old is “highly-rated” at Ibrox, especially after he scored a goal on his debut at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

It is understood that Gers are keen on giving him game time next season and a loan exit could be on the cards this window.

Rangers

Makes sense

It’s hard to gauge someone based on one appearance, especially if it’s on the final day of the season and both teams have nothing left to play for.

However, the 19-year-old looked like a breath of fresh air who’ll only get better if given more game time at the senior level.

That is unlikely to happen at Rangers next season so the best thing for him could be to go out on loan and accumulate some vital minutes under his belt.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst can then assess him throughout the course of the season and maybe even recall him in January if he feels the need for reinforcements in the middle of the park.

As things stand, the squad is good enough in midfield and could probably do with one more addition before the window closes.

McKinnon is currently way down the pecking order so it’s better for his development that he plays his football away from Ibrox in the coming campaign.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
