Rangers starlet Cole McKinnon on radar of Partick Thistle

Partick Thistle are interested in signing Rangers young midfielder Cole McKinnon on loan in the summer, according to the Scottish Sun.

The teenager has come through the youth system of the Gers and is one of the highly-rated youngsters in the squad.

It is believed that Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst believes that if McKinnon wants to hit the next level, he must start playing regular football and a loan move could provide exactly that.

The Scotland U19 international spent two months on loan at East Fife last year where he made 10 appearances across all competitions.

Future of Scotland

Considering the potential McKinnon has in his locker, it won’t be wrong if we call him the future of Scotland.

Even though he only made four appearances for the first team in the 2021-22 Challenger Cup, his best performances came in the UEFA Youth League and League One [TransferMarkt].

In all competitions in the 2021-22 season, the 19-year-old made 22 appearances, scoring two goals and collecting only three yellow cards.

If you saw his cameo in a 3-1 win over Hearts in May, you would understand the kind of potential this young midfielder has. SofaScore gave him a rating of 7.22 for that performance.

Even though he prefers to play as a central midfielder, McKinnon has also played as a defensive and a box-to-box midfielder for Rangers in his young career which is also a testament to his versatility as a player.

Those are the kind of traits that makes an individual stands out and therefore, him getting a chance to leave and play regular football seems to be the right move for the club as well as the player.

In other Rangers news, one of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox stalwarts has been offered a huge payday to switch Glasgow for the Middle East.
