Rangers scouts watch Erik Botheim numerous times with major transfer on cards

Rangers scouts have watched powerhouse striker Erik Botheim on numerous occasions now ahead of a potential major transfer, according to Football Scotland.

The online outlet has reported that the free agent striker is an option for Giovanni van Bronckohrst next season after he ripped up his contract at Russian club Krasnodar.

It is reported that despite being watched numerous times by the recruitment team, they currently have stronger options they could target alongside Alfredo Morelos.

It is clear that Ross Wilson and his team are looking to follow the arrival of John Souttar with another striker to improve options in the final third.

Ross Stewart at Sunderland has also been mentioned as an option, but it is unclear whether he is one of the stronger potential signings than Botheim.

Described as “Immense” by Total Football Analysis, Botheim is strong in nearly every area in the final third, making him a real handful for defenders to deal with.

Powerhouse.

This could be the perfect signing.

Morelos lacks the height that Botheim could bring, and Kemar Roofe delivering the pace that can turn defences, this is a trio that could terrorise teams around Europe.

Of course, there is the worry that a new striker could be needed to replace someone going the other way, with speculation no doubt on the cards regarding Morelos.

Van Bronckhorst will know that he needs a striker anyway, with the end of the 2021-22 season making that very clear as injuries savaged the squad.

Morelos and Roofe were both out, and that left Joe Aribo to play centrally.

Although that went well, it could have been so much better with an out-and-out number nine such as Botheim available and ready to go when called upon.

This is certainly one to watch.
