Rangers receive no bids for Alfredo Morelos with interest high

Rangers are yet to receive any formal bid for striker Alfredo Morelos despite high interest in the Colombian, according to Fraser Fletcher.

The 25-year-old was the Light Blues’ top scorer in the 2021-22 campaign but missed the crucial end to the season through injury.

But his contract at Ibrox is set to expire in 12 months’ time which could make this transfer window the last in which Rangers could sell him for a significant profit.

Fletcher, a journalist for BBC Scotland, reported via his personal Twitter account that the Gers are keen to keep him in Glasgow on a new deal but that interest in him is high, even if no bids have been submitted to date.

Stay like that

It might not be in our control but if we make it to the end of this summer transfer window without an offer being put in front of us then we should consider it a success.

While we could get a healthy transfer fee for Morelos this summer, we have to wonder if it would be better to have him score a hatful of goals for us in a Scottish Premiership-winning campaign.

He could go out on top as a true hero of Ibrox and then we can look to replace him the following transfer window rather than having two top strikers now which would leave one unhappy with their playing time.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst certainly wouldn’t mind one more year of Morelos magic and we will still be able to find his replacement with no problem with whatever transfer budget we have without a fee coming in for the Colombian.

It isn’t in our hands though and if a huge bid does come in, we will find it hard to turn down so we are far from out of the woods just yet.

In other Rangers news, one of our potential Morelos replacements is available for free but he isn’t at the top of our summer shopping list.
