Rangers accept 10% sell-on clause in deal to sell Rory Wilson to Aston Villa

Rangers have accepted a 10% sell-on clause in the deal to sell Rory Wilson to Aston Villa, according to Jordan Campbell.

The Athletic journalist has reported that the two clubs returned to the table with complaints going to FIFA are always wanted to be avoided in the modern-day.

Aston Villa are instead set to pay £350,000 which could rise to £1million as well as the sell-on clause to get their hands on the Scotland sensation.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Campbell shared the details behind the deal that is now on the verge of completion in the next few weeks.

“Aston Villa moving closer to sealing a deal for Rory Wilson after the clubs returned to the table,” he wrote.

“It wasn’t unexpected as avoiding FIFA is always preferred. Expected to be £350k guaranteed with add-ons potentially reaching £1m and 10% sell-on.”

Smart.

Wilson is destined for the very top, that is something everyone knows.

Is he going to get there with Aston Villa in the next 10 years? Probably not, no matter how much Steven Gerrard would like to think he could.

That means another big transfer is likely in his future, and the Bears have made sure that they will get rewarded financially down the line if that does happen.

Wilson hit nearly 50 goals in the 2021-22 season so the interest was inevitable, and it looks as though we were powerless to stop it from happening.

If FIFA did get involved, there is a chance that Villa would only have had to pay just above £100,000, so that is a risk we certainly didn’t need to be taking.

Scottish clubs need to be protected more when top-flight English sides come calling and can get hold of their best talent this easily, and Rangers may be the ones who need to push for that.

This is now all but sealed.
