Allan McGregor has lucrative offer from UAE amid Rangers contract stalemate

Allan McGregor has been offered a chance to leave Rangers by an unnamed club in the United Arab Emirates, according to the Scottish Sun.

The 40-year-old’s contract at Ibrox expires on 30 June but talks over extending his stay in Glasgow have stalled which has seen clubs from abroad begin to circle.

The Scotland international is supposedly not shy of offers to play elsewhere but money is not going to be the deciding factor despite the bumper payday he could receive in the Middle East.

Jon McLaughlin could be promoted to first choice for Giovanni van Bronckhorst next season which may make McGregor’s decision a touch easier if he wants to continue playing regularly.

Connor Goldson, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield have all penned extensions to their respective Rangers contract already this summer.

In a way, it is refreshing to hear that money is not the main factor in McGregor deciding his future but it is still causing further issues if he still hasn’t penned his new deal at Ibrox.

He is getting very close to the end of his professional career and he has a family to think about and a year away in the United Arab Emirates on big wages could set the family up for a fruitful future.

As much as he might want to play football as often as possible here at Rangers, that almost becomes secondary when he has so few years left in the game.

Particularly if McLaughlin does step up to be the new number one, the 40-year-old has to realise that the dream is over after such a long time.

It’s been a long and bumpy road to this point but this marriage was always destined to end eventually and we might have found the point of civil divorce.

In other Rangers news, former Celtic striker Scott McDonald has given his verdict on the two Old Firm rivals and thinks they are closer than the Scottish Premiership table suggested in 2021-22.
