Journalist addresses claims of Rangers move for Ross Stewart amid Alfredo Morelos uncertainty

Rangers reportedly do not see Ross Stewart as a direct replacement for Colombian attacker Alfredo Morelos this summer.

According to Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane, Gers have watched the 25-year-old on numerous occasions in the past.

However, reports that claim he is seen as a direct replacement for Morelos are ‘wide off the mark’ as he isn’t viewed in the same bracket yet.

Sensible

It’s hard to see the club thinking that Stewart is on the same level as Morelos – a player who has bailed them out on numerous occasions.

Under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, he enjoyed a resurgent and was arguably the best player for the defending champions until his injury.

Since then, his future has been the cause for major speculation with an exit still being just as likely as him staying on for another year.

Stewart is a talented player and has also been praised by Kris Boyd in the past. Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Gilette Soccer Special on Good Friday [15 April, 14:45], he said:

“It’s the other thing that Ross Stewart does for me, he works ever so hard for the team. He’s been linked with Rangers this week, he’s at a good age now, 25, but I think it’s his work ethic is unbelievable.”

While he certainly brings something to the table, he must be signed as a backup and nothing else and must earn the chance to be a regular in the Gers first team.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
