Three clubs battle to sign Rangers defender Borna Barisic

Rangers left-back Borna Barisic is attracting interest from several Turkish clubs, according to a report from The Scotsman [11 June].

Football Scotland reported on 10 June that the Gers are likely to receive a bid from Trabzonspor for Barisic.

Two unnamed Turkish clubs have joined the race to sign the Croatian international, but Rangers would command a sizeable fee if he leaves the club.

The report also adds that Barisic’s future largely depends upon what happens next with Calvin Bassey.

The 22-year-old centre-back has been one of the top performers for the club, but he has been linked with a move away from Ibrox.

Possibility

Barisic struggled to get into the Rangers team last season (2021-22) after his dreadful performance against Celtic at Parkhead in February.

However, towards the end of the season, he returned to his best form and produced some top-quality performances in the Europa League.

Bassey is an exciting talent, and if he leaves the club, then Rangers are unlikely to sell Barisic. But, the possibility remains of a potential exit.

Money speaks, and the Bears will look into the business side of the deal if there’s a good offer on the table for Barisic.

At the moment, it looks like none of the players appears to be pushing for a move, so unless there’s a sizeable bid, Rangers would be more than happy to keep both of them.

Rangers have bolstered their defence this summer by adding John Souttar on a free transfer. With Connor Goldson also extending his stay, there will be competition for places.

In other Rangers news, the Gers want to raid this billionaire-owned club to sign a new left-back who could be Bassey’s replacement.
