Rangers star Ianis Hagi vows to come back ‘stronger’ after devastating injury

Rangers attacking midfielder Ianis Hagi is eager to return to the field next season after a lengthy injury layoff.

The 23-year-old missed the second half of the season due to a devastating ACL injury in a Scottish Cup fixture, for which he had to go through surgery.

Talking about the difficulties during the rehab, Hagi admitted that family support helped him in getting through a difficult time and is optimistic that he will come back “stronger”.

“When you have such an injury, it is never easy,” he said while talking to AS.ro. “Sometimes you are alone, and you can’t sleep at night.

“My family has been with me. They supported me unconditionally and understood what I needed to recover 100 per cent. I’m very happy with how the recovery went.

“Life is complicated. Everything that has happened in my life since I started playing football has been surrounded by football.

“There are times when you feel alone. The people I love have helped me get through this moment in my life.

“100 percent I will come back stronger, I have no doubt. I know myself, I know who I am. What matters is how you feel and how confident you are. I’m sure I’ll be back even better!”

Rangers’ Missing Piece

There is a sense that the primary reason behind Giovanni van Bronckhorst not winning a title in the recently concluded season was because of Hagi’s injury.

The Romania international was extremely important to Rangers’ creativity and skill when having possession.

It is because of his absence perhaps that the tactic deployed by Rangers’ management was to frustrate Eintracht Frankfurt and wait till they committed a mistake in the Europa League final.

If Hagi had been available, that may not have been the case.

In the 2021/22 season, the 23-year-old made 27 appearances for the club in all competitions where he scored four times and provided the same number of assists [Transfermarkt].

Those numbers suggest the importance Hagi has for the Bears and fans will be hoping to see their star player returning to action as soon as possible.

The attacking midfielder joined the Gers in the summer of 2020 from Belgium outfit KRC Genk in a deal worth £3.15 million.

In other Rangers news, contrary to previous reports, this Light Blues icon is yet to open talks with the club over a new deal and he won’t want to take the incentive they are offering either.
