Rangers exceed £27.9m commercial revenue target in 21/22

Rangers have exceeded their target of generating £27.9million in revenue for the 2021-22 season, according to commercial chief James Bisgrove.

The Light Blues are enjoying great success off the pitch with this latest good news likely to help fund improvements to Ibrox before the 2022-23 season kicks off in July.

Bisgrove couldn’t contain his gratitude to the companies, fans and sponsors that helped make this achievable having originally set the bar at the Rangers AGM in November 2021.

“It’s been a positive year for us, it’s been a really good year for us in terms of commercial revenue, in terms of commercial growth,” Bisgrove said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I spoke at the AGM back in November 2021 and I set out our target if you like for our revenue figure we wanted to reach, which was £27.9million.

“We set a really high bar and we’re delighted we have reached that, we have actually exceeded that.

“That’s thanks to our different commercial operations, all our sponsors, the backing we get from hospitality clients, the support we get from supporters buying retail products and going on stadium tours.

“We’re enhancing a lot of facilities at Ibrox too. For that commercial pillar to be forming, to be growing, it sits alongside the other pillars, the matchday revenue, season tickets sold out again in record time.

“The backing this club gets is second to none. It’s unparalleled.”

Reinvest

Pocketing all this money is all well and good but the club moves nowhere if it is not reinvested back into the training ground, stadium or squad.

Fortunately, Bisgrove seems confident that all of the above will be happening this summer and later in the 2022-23 season which should see us continue our rise back to the top of the football hierarchy.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side missed out on the Scottish Premiership title in 2021-22 with Old Firm rivals Celtic taking the honours but if a good portion of this revenue is put into the Dutchman’s squad then we can expect to be favourites to reclaim our crown come May 2023.

The aforementioned improvements to Ibrox have to be carefully planned though because there is no other ground like it in terms of an atmosphere and we cannot afford to lose that if we want to continue our giant-killing exploits in Europe.

In other Rangers news, despite the unity shown between the Bears and Eintracht Frankfurt, UEFA are adamant they won’t investigate the lack of food or drink at the Europa League final.
