Iain Dowie destroys Rangers ace Steven Davis in Northern Ireland showdown v Kosovo

Iain Dowie has destroyed Rangers star Steven Davis after his disastrous start for Northern Ireland against Kosovo in the Nations League on Thursday evening [09 June].

The pundit was not happy after the veteran midfielder gave away a penalty within the opening 10 minutes with a shocking challenge on Milot Rashica.

Dowie admitted that time can catch up with older players, as Davis was sucked into a late challenge when there was little chance of him winning the ball.

Speaking live on Premier Sports on Thursday evening [09 June], as shared on Twitter, Dowie was far from impressed with what he saw from the veteran.

“I don’t know what Steven Davis is doing,” he said.

“You can tell now, he thinks he can get there. I’m not being funny, he’s been immense for Northern Ireland but time catches up and you look at Rashica, very sharp, he buys the penalty.

“The worst possible start for Northern Ireland.”

Shocker.

This certainly wasn’t the best look for Davis, this one.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst may be watching his players currently away on international duty, and this challenge could be the first sign we have seen of a serious decline.

The midfielder lunged in and looked tired despite the game only being seven minutes in, and that isn’t the sign of someone who can play every single week.

With aspirations of getting into the Champions League in the 2022-23 season, Davis doesn’t look as though he will be able to put his body on the line for that.

It may be that the veteran is only used in games such as against the so-called lesser teams in the Scottish Premiership and potentially in the cups.

This is one to watch, but beyond the next campaign, we can’t see another contract in his future, if this is anything to go by as the evidence.
