Rangers signing Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland risky business
Rangers are interested in making a move for Crystal Palace veteran goalkeeper Jack Butland in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun.
The England international wants to move out of Selhurst Park with just one year left on his deal with the Eagles.
On the other hand, Palace have been linked with a move for West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone [BBC Sport].
However, the Gers are expected to have a tough outing to sign the former Stoke City goalkeeper as they are facing competition from Bournemouth who have recently secured promotion back to the Premier League.
It was only a few years ago when people suggested that Gareth Southgate should stop considering Jordan Pickford between the sticks and replace him with Butland for the 2018 World Cup.
Things have completely fallen off the cliff for the 29-year-old since then. Not only has he struggled to get minutes for England but he has also struggled to get a first-team role at his club.
After making 116 appearances across his last three seasons for Stoke City in the Premier League and Championship respectively, the England international hasn’t even made 10 Premier League appearances in one season for Palace [Whoscored].
However, at the age of just 29, many would argue that he is yet to hit his prime as goalkeepers’ career trajectory is a little different from outfield players.
On top of it, with only one year left on his current deal with Palace, the Gers might get their man on a cheaper deal.
