Aston Villa progress deal to sign Rory Wilson, Rangers now due £300,000

Aston Villa are now progressing with a deal to sign Rangers sensation Rory Wilson, according to Barry Anderson.

The Scotsman journalist has reported that the deal is moving forward and now the Bears are due a £300,000 development fee in the imminent future.

Villa are also targeting Hearts youngster Ewan Simpson as Steven Gerrard plots to tempt some of Scotland’s brightest talent south of the border.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Anderson shared the latest as Villa appear to close in on the signing of the young talisman this month.

“Rory Wilson from Rangers to Aston Villa is progressing,” he wrote.

“Wilson (16) scored 49 goals at youth level this season for Rangers & Scotland. Rangers due a £300,000 development fee.”

Progress.

With this move clearly developing with each day that passes, it would be no surprise to see it happen this week.

Gerrard is using his time in the Scottish game to bring some of the brightest young stars to Villa Park, something that he is able to do for next to nothing.

Rangers have used the cross-border development rules to their advantage, signing the likes of Joe Aribo for basically nothing and look how good he has turned out.

Now it is time for the shoe to be on the other foot, as we rue another one of our huge talents moving on, just as Billy Gilmour did all those years ago to join Chelsea.

Wilson hitting nearly 50 goals in one season is all of the proof anyone needs to prove that he will become a star in England, with his imminent exit likely a day we will all look back on.

With a six-figure windfall imminent, you have to have replace these young talents in your academy and hopefully, Ross Wilson is already getting to work.
