Allan McGregor to accept new Rangers contract off with Auchenhowie twist on the cards – Chris Jack
Allan McGregor is on the verge of extending his stay at Rangers by signing a new contract, according to Glasgow Evening Times journalist Chris Jack.
Writing on the newspaper’s website on 7 June, Jack reported that the 40-year-old goalkeeper has decided to extend his stay at Ibrox for another season and it is understood he could also become a coach at Auchwenhowie in his fresh terms.
Jack adds that McGregor is “now poised to accept the offer that is on the table and put pen-to-paper on another deal”.

Same squad next season?
With a few exceptions, it looks as though Rangers will go into the 2022/23 season with the same ageing squad as they have done this season.
McGregor is a great goalkeeper at 40-years-of-age.
He’s had some stellar moments of the years but while he did play well at times this season, he wasn’t as good as he was when we won the Scottish Premiership title under Steven Gerrard.
We reached a Europa League final this season and won the Scottish Cup but we were a lot worse in the league and the performances grew more tired and more predictable as the campaign went on.
This summer should have been a summer of change where the club would move on some players who’ve been with us for a long time, make big profits on those who are out of contract next year and build a better squad.
But with McGregor, Connor Goldson and Steven Davis among those staying and no real clues about the future of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, it looks like the squad’s stagnation could continue.
Celtic went for a complete overhaul last year and guess what? It worked for them.
They won the league and they’re guaranteed a spot in the Champions League group stages under Ange Postecoglou.
Rangers’ stubbornness has shown signs of costing them big – we came close to not winning any silverware at all this season.
In other Rangers news, the Gers could sell this multi-million player in order to land a major new signing at Ibrox.
