Rangers interest in Josh Tymon could’ve dropped hint on a future move for Calvin Bassey

Rangers are reportedly interested in Stoke City left-back Josh Tymon – and that could’ve dropped a hint on Calvin Bassey’s future at Ibrox.

As revealed by the Daily Mail [26 May], Bassey has been of interest to West Ham and Aston Villa, with the Gers putting a £25million price tag on the 22-year-old.

Despite the huge price tag on Bassey, Rangers showing interest in £5million rated Tymon could indicate they’re preparing for Bassey’s departure [The Sun, 4 June].

As much as it will be hard to hear for the Ibrox faithful, Bassey would generate a huge fee for the club.

With his contract running until the summer of 2024, there is every chance the Scottish giants would be able to recoup pretty much all of their £25million asking price.

Their interest in Tymon potentially indicates that the Ibrox side are bolstering their left-sided defensive options to prepare for a major departure.

The Sun has suggested that Tymon will be a replacement for Borna Barišić, should the Croatian leave the club.

However, forking out the best part of £5million for a replacement for a 29-year-old doesn’t quite add up.

Tymon looks like a calibre of player that is more aligned to replacing Bassey at Ibrox.

Rangers will need to assess quickly whether Bassey is going to commit his long-term future to the club.

If he isn’t open to remaining at Ibrox long-term then the Gers would be wise to cash in on the defender as soon as possible.

Regardless, it is good to see the Ibrox side making moves early in the transfer window for young, up and coming talent.
