Rangers hold preliminary talks to sign PFC Sochi forward Mateo Cassierra

Rangers have held preliminary talks over a potential transfer for PFC Sochi forward Mateo Cassierra, according to The Fourth Official on Thursday evening [02 June].

The online source has reported that the Bears have been in contact with the Colombian talisman, who has already admitted he would like a summer move to Ibrox.

It is suggested that the interest is “genuine” but nothing will be agreed upon quickly given the £8.5million asking price placed on the head of Cassierra as things stand.

Writing on their official Patreon page late on Thursday evening [02 June], The Fourth Official shared the latest behind any potential move for the South American.

“Mateo Cassierra is linked with Rangers and the interest is genuine,” they wrote.

“With so much uncertainty given the player’s status of playing in a Russian club, I doubt a transfer fee can be agreed quickly (this one is speculation on my part). However, there have been preliminary talks between the player and club according to one source close to one of the parties.”

Busy Man.

Ross Wilson has been everywhere at the start of this summer.

With new contracts being agreed left, right and centre with possibly more to come, it is a surprise he has had time to hold talks over a potential new centre-forward for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to work with.

On top of that, Cedric Itten has already been sold with a move back to Switzerland sorted, opening up a space for Cassierra to arrive if a move is agreed.

The Colombian was in cracking form last season over in Russia, scoring 14 and assisting six goals in his 22 appearances, showing he knows where the back of the net is.

Much of this potential transfer could depend on the future of Alfredo Morelos, but with him nursing his way back to full fitness after that big injury, a move away could be hard.

If he stays, we could see a new Colombian dream team formed at Ibrox in the final, with Kemar Roofe also available and most likely already raring to go after injury issues of his own.

With talks opened with Cassierra already, this is certainly one to watch, but the price will need to be lowered dramatically if anything is to get off the ground.

In other Rangers news, this multi-million bid for one Bears player may have been made to unsettle him at Ibrox
