Rangers could sign new left-back as Giovanni van Bronckhorst transfer budget revealed
Rangers want to make at least two or three new signings for their first team this summer with one of them being an “undisputed first-team starter”, according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.
Writing on The Athletic website on 3 June, Campbell reports that Giovanni van Bronckhorst doesn’t have the biggest transfer budget available this summer but there is enough cash to make one marquee signing for his side.
As for targets, it is understood that van Bronckhorst wants a new right-winger, a “creative, goal-scoring midfielder” and “a more direct striking option” after Cedric Itten was sold to BSC Young Boys.

Campbell adds that Connor Goldson’s new deal means that a centre-back isn’t needed now as much as it was once while ” a left-back could also join”.
Busy summer
It’s going to be a busy summer transfer window for van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.
We’d be shocked if we get through the summer without at least one big-name player leaving with the likes of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos in the final year of their contracts and Calvin Bassey, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo attracting attention from south of the border.
If all five of those players are still at Ibrox by the time the transfer window slams shut, we’ll be amazed.
But we’ll also be slightly miffed.

Rangers should have learned from their mistakes of last summer because they didn’t do enough of a job in revitalising the squad.
Steven Gerrard struggled at the start of the season and although there was a bounce after van Bronckhorst arrived and he ultimately led us to the Europa League final and Scottish Cup glory, our form in the Scottish Premiership was painfully average and below par.
Should we have cashed in on Kent a year ago and used that money to not only replace him but also sign a right-winger too? Should we have looked to move on Kamara in January when Aaron Ramsey arrived and Ryan Jack returned from injury and the Finnish international’s game-time dropped?
Wilson’s signings haven’t impressed us, on the whole, just yet.
He’ll improve the signings he makes by sanctioning sales.
Van Bronckhorst and Wilson either need to sort out new contracts for Kent and Morelos or shift them on, unfortunately.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have agreed a fee with Leicester ahead of a significant behind-the-scenes departure from Ibrox.
