Leon King expected to take Rangers spot of Leon Balogun, no transfer set
Leon King is expected to take the Rangers spot of Leon Balogun in the 2022-23 season after his exit was confirmed, according to the Glasgow Times.
The Bears confirmed on Friday evening [03 June], that the Nigerian would leave Ibrox with his contract set to come to an end and no agreement in place for an extension.
It is now reported that King will jump up the pecking order with no major new transfers planned in the heart of the defence for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Writing for the Glasgow Times on Friday evening, Ewan Paton shared how the squad could look at Ibrox moving into the new 2022-23 season.
“It is expected that the space vacated by Balogun in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad will be filled by youngster Leon King next term,” he wrote.

Smart.
This is the move that makes the most sense.
Why would Rangers make a big-money move or look to bring in another new face when the next line of prospects are pushing their way towards the first team?
King has been doing just that for a couple of years now, and Van Bronckhorst rewarded him with more starting spots as the 2021-22 season was coming to an end.
John Souttar and Connor Goldson will be expected to be the first-choice partnership, that is if Calvin Bassey is pushed to the left-hand side more regularly.
Then you add in Filip Helander and Nikola Katic, there was certainly no need to keep Balogun.
King will fill that fifth, if not sixth spot with ease and will get the odd opportunity likely in the cup competitions when rotation will be key as we look for more success.
There is no need to waste any more money.
