Aston Villa expect to wrap up deal to sign Rangers sensation Rory Wilson in coming weeks
Aston Villa are “expected” to wrap up a deal to sign young striker Rory Wilson from Rangers “in the coming weeks,” according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.
Writing on The Athletic website on 3 June, Campbell reported that Wilson, 16, is set to join former Gerrs manager Steven Gerrard in the English Premier League.
As quoted by the Daily Record on 24 May, Wilson has already confirmed he’s leaving Ibrox and Campbell now claims he’ll soon be a Villa player.

“Further down the academy, 16-year-old striker Rory Wilson is expected to leave for Aston Villa in the coming weeks, but the outside focus is on Van Bronckhorst and how he moulds the team into his full vision,” said Campbell.
Good luck, Rory
While many Rangers fans will feel some kind of resentment towards Wilson for ditching Ibrox at such a young age to head south of the border, we really cannot blame him.
Aston Villa’s academy is one of the best in English football and there’s obviously a chance for Wilson to work with ex-Gers boss Gerrard in the West Midlands.

Rangers do offer plenty of chances for their young players and those chances seem to be increasing by the year.
However, Wilson may see his route to the senior side a bit blocked and there are more opportunities for him in England in regards to Premier League 2 football and a wider spectrum of clubs to join on loan.
In Scotland, it’s either Under-18s football, B team football or a loan to a pretty terrible division unless you’re being loaned to a Scottish Premiership rival.
Most aspects of English football is better for young players than it is in Scotland and we cannot blame Wilson for thinking of his own career and making that move.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have agreed a fee with Leicester ahead of a significant behind-the-scenes departure from Ibrox.
