Rangers to offer Jay Hogarth new Ibrox deal, will be loaned out in 22-23

Teenage goalkeeper Jay Hogarth is set to be offered a new deal with Rangers to keep him at the club beyond the 22-23 season, according to the Daily Record.

The 18-year-old played five times in the UEFA Youth League during the 2021-22 season and kept two clean sheets in the process and he looks set to be rewarded for his fine season at Auchenhowie.

The Scottish Under-19 international is due to see his current contract with the Light Blues expire at the end of next season but the Gers want to keep him around for longer than that.

Hogarth will not only put pen to paper on a new deal with the Bears but he will also be sent out on loan to gain some incredibly valuable senior-level experience to continue furthering himself as a player.

Ross Wilson, the club’s sporting director, will look for options to send Hogarth to in due course with the 2022-23 season starting in July.

Exciting

Being just 18 years of age, Hogarth was never likely to be Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first choice for next season but he could definitely be the main man in a couple of years, given the time.

Should he sign this new deal, which he would be a maniac not to if we’re honest, then whatever loan he is able to get will be a critical year for his career.

Rangers

It could go one of two ways, the first being that he performs out of his skin and helps whoever he plays for exceed expectations to which the Gers hierarchy will take notice.

The second outcome would be a relatively quiet or sub-par season away from Ibrox which would not catch the eye of van Bronckhorst or any of his staff.

The result of his loan will be down to him but there is no doubting that he needs to spend time away from the comfortable environment of Rangers and get amongst the proper leagues.

In other Rangers news, one of van Bronckhorst’s talismans has come out to insist he is happy in Glasgow despite rumours linking him with a move away.
