Rangers locked in ‘very fluid’ talks with Leon Balogun over new contract
Rangers are currently locked in “very fluid” behind scenes talks over a new contract for Leon Balogun, according to The Fourth Official.
The online source has reported that the Nigerian international wants to stay at Ibrox with his current deal on the verge of expiration in Glasgow.
It is also uncertain if John Souttar arriving as well as Connor Goldson signing his own extension will affect any progression for Balogun in his latest round of talks.

Writing on their official Patreon page on Wednesday [01 June], the Fourth Official shared how the behind scenes talks are currently going at Ibrox.
“I was also told that there are contract negotiations going on between Rangers and Leon Balogun, but things are very fluid right now,” they wrote.
“While the player wants to stay, it would be interesting to see if today’s Connor Goldson deal has any effect on the Nigerian staying on.”

Interesting.
This will very much depend on how much depth Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants within his squad.
In the 2021-22 season, both Balogun and Filip Helander suffered from injuries and that led to the rise of Calvin Bassey in the heart of the defence.
The youngster is now facing heavy transfer speculation, but if he stays, he will want a guaranteed starting spot – something that could see him move back to the left-hand side.
Then Goldson would partner Souttar you would think, leaving Helander and Balogun, with Leon King too as back up and competitions for those central spots.
Having Balogun around wouldn’t be a bad thing, but it also wouldn’t be the worst if he was to leave, especially when you remember the return of Nikola Katic which is imminent.
Van Bronckhorst has plenty of options to play with and if we can agree a cheap deal with Balogun, then there wouldn’t be many who would say no.
