Rangers could lay brutal Celtic blow by signing Rabbi Matondo
Rangers and Celtic are reportedly locked in horns over a transfer saga involving FC Schalke attacker Rabbi Matondo.
Wales Online reported that Gers wanted to sign his 16-year-old brother as well, despite growing interest in his services.
Guardian journalist Will Unwin claims that the elder Matondo was very close to agreeing terms with Anderlecht before Vincent Kompany decided to leave.
He wrote on Twitter, “Rabbi Matondo has turned down a number of offers in Belgium and is most likely to return to England, I am told. Vincent Kompany was interested in him at Anderlecht prior to his departure.
“He came very close to agreeing terms with Anderlecht before Kompany’s exit. Rangers and Celtic are both very interested in Matondo.”
This clearly means that he was keen on leaving Schalke and now the chances of a move to Anderlecht appear bleak.
Burnley look likely to be Kompany’s next job and given their financial situation, they may not be able to offer him the kind of wages clubs like Rangers and Celtic would.
We are expecting the transfer battle between the two Old Firm clubs to intensify a great deal over the coming weeks.
Despite the lack of Champions League football, Gers have a decent transfer kitty and could tempt the youngster with more first-team minutes in order to sign him ahead of the Hoops.
Not only would he be a good signing for the future, but he could also work his way up the ranks at Ibrox very quickly as his talent is unquestionable and if he’s signed, he certainly would be a success at the club.
In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
