Connor Goldson will ‘never find a bigger club’ according to Rangers legend Richard Gough
Richard Gough believes private conversations he shared with Connor Goldson could’ve potentially persuaded the defender to remain at Rangers.
Goldson signed a new four-year deal with the Gers on Wednesday [1 June] after it had been revealed [Football League World, 1 June] that the defender was set to move to Nottingham Forest.
Gough revealed that previous conversations he shared with Goldson may have had an impact on his decision to remain at Ibrox.

Talking to the Scottish Daily Express [2 June], Gough said: “I spoke to him after the Leipzig game and I knew at that time there was a lot of talk of him going back to England.
“I said to him that he might have offers to go to a bigger league but he’ll never find a bigger club.”
He added: “I don’t know if my words had anything to do with it, but hopefully it helped him make up his mind.”
Gough isn’t wrong
It’s refreshing to see Goldson commit his future to Rangers.
He would’ve undoubtedly received a significant pay rise had he moved to England but ultimately his loyalty to Rangers has come to the fore.
There are very few teams in England that are bigger than the Ibrox side and over the next four years, Goldson can turn himself into a Rangers hero.
His loyalty won’t go unnoticed by the Ibrox faithful and securing his signature relieves another transfer dilemma for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Rangers boss is set to be in for a busy summer with Rangers needing depth in certain areas.
With Goldson signing on, the Gers now have a solid defensive unit which will allow van Bronckhorst to focus on other areas of the pitch.
Another striker coming through the door at Rangers has to be a priority for the club hierarchy.
Joe Aribo was excellent in a central position and Kemar Roofe is a good option up front but the Gers need another dynamic in a central striking role.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have agreed a compensation fee for Leicester to hire this behind-the-scenes man at Ibrox.
