Ross Wilson is pleased with Rangers’ ‘strong defensive unit’ after Connor Goldson’s contract extension
Ross Wilson believes Rangers have a “strong defensive unit” after agreeing on a new deal with Connor Goldson, as well as confirming John Souttar’s move from Hearts.
There had been doubts over Goldson’s future after it was reported by Football League World on Wednesday [1 June] that Nottingham Forest were set to land the 29-year-old on a free transfer.
However, in a quick turn of events Rangers announced that the defender had agreed on a new four year deal at Ibrox.

Rangers also confirmed the signing of Souttar from Hearts, and Sporting Director Wilson believes the Gers have assembled a solid defensive unit.
As quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times on Wednesday [1 June], Wilson said: “I know how strong his [Goldson] feeling is for Rangers and we look forward to continuing the journey with him.
“With Connor committing his future and John [Souttar] also officially joining Rangers today we have assembled a strong defensive unit.
Huge shock
Considering that Goldson was seemingly on his way to Forest, it will be a huge boost for Rangers fans to see their defensive stalwart commit his long-term future to the club.
At 29 there is very little chance he will move on for a higher fee and after signing a four-year deal he is at Ibrox to stay.
Along with the confirmation of Souttar, it has proved to be an excellent day for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Rangers were already defensively stable with a variety of options allowing them to play different formations.
Keeping Goldson means van Bronckhorst can now focus his attention and funds on other areas of the pitch, which perhaps need more work.
The Gers boss should be looking at strengthening his options in attacking areas, specifically upfront.
Joe Aribo was excellent when asked to play a more central role but nevertheless, the Gers need more variety when it comes to the number nine role.
Goldson signing a new deal has meant one less headache for van Bronckhorst.
In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
