Rangers need to loan out Alex Lowry after Steven Davis contract extension
Teenage midfielder Alex Lowry burst onto the scene for Rangers last season with a goal on his debut in the Scottish Cup against Stirling Albion.
He ran the show that night despite being only 18 years of age and he earned many more substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership later in the season as a result.
He signed a new deal at Ibrox only last month to keep him in Glasgow until 2025 but more contract news on Tuesday (31 May) might throw a spanner in his plans.
The Light Blues announced the one-year extension to Steven Davis’ contract with the club before it was due to expire at the end of June [Rangers’ official Twitter account].
That keeps the Northern Irishman at the club until the end of next season but Lowry can’t really afford to wait that long to be a regular feature in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
He will be 19 years of age when the 2022-23 season kicks off in July and that is when he should be starting to play every single week to carry on his development into a star player.
With Davis’ extension and other midfielders such as John Lundstram, Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield at the club already, there isn’t much room for him to come in and play enough to make it worthwhile.

The teenager needs to go somewhere else on loan now and be the main man in the middle and prove to the Dutchman that he is ready to play a starring role at Ibrox no matter the game or the opponent.
It doesn’t even have to be a season-long loan either as he could just go for the first six months and then be recalled if van Bronckhorst decides now is the time for him to be the Bears’ maestro.
In other Rangers news, the Gers and Eintracht Frankfurt are having to do UEFA’s job for them after the farce that was the Europa League final last month.
