Rangers must pounce to win race for Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer

Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to strengthen his Rangers squad if he wants to challenge Celtic and regain our Scottish Premiership title.

One area where that spark has been missing at times recently is central midfield with no permanent partner found for John Lundstram ever since Joe Aribo moved upfront to accommodate for the injuries to Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe.

That’s where the boss is searching for fresh blood and he has his sights set on Coventry City’s dynamic midfield maestro Gustavo Hamer but Celtic are also in the hunt [Football League World].

There has been no movement on Rangers’ side to try and sign the 24-year-old and they could be about to be usurped in their pursuit by Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion, according to the Coventry Telegraph.

Thankfully for the Light Blues, he isn’t considered a top target for Graham Potter his transfer window which could leave the door open for a move but not if they carry on waiting with Leeds United, Brentford and Norwich City also keeping a close eye on his situation.

Despite that though, they aren’t out of the running already having recently done business with the Sky Blues in selling Viktor Gyokeres to the Ricoh Arena and allowing Leo Ostigaard to spend some time in the Midlands on loan.

Whether Rangers want to sign him or not, they need to decide sooner rather than later so they can pursue whichever path they wish to go down and not keep dawdling at the junction.

He would make a significant difference to the side though and if Celtic are also keen, then maybe it would be smart to sign him to stop them from getting their hands on him if nothing else.

In other Rangers news, the club have already sold one of their biggest flops of recent seasons as he heads back to his homeland where he’s banged in goals previously.
