PFC Sochi demand £8.5m for Rangers target Mateo Cassierra

Russian club PFC Sochi are demanding £8.5million for striker and Rangers transfer target Mateo Cassierra this summer.

According to Vital Rangers, the South American is set to leave the club in the coming months as no Russian clubs will now be allowed to compete in the Champions League or any other UEFA competitions.

The 25-year-old himself confirmed recently that he is on the radar of the 55-time SPFL champions.

He said, via Football Scotland, “I hope within the next week or so, my future will be confirmed and I will sign for a club who are good for me.

“My priority is to stay in Europe because I have been here for five years now.

“The manager of Rangers knows me because when I was at Ajax, he was the manager of Feyenoord.

“So there are options for me that need to be evaluated.”

Sign him?

This past season was a productive one for the Colombian and one that he will be proud of, especially as he looks for a new club.

In 22 games, he has bagged 14 goals and provided six assists – which is nearly a goal contribution per game – an impressive feat over the course of a season.

The Russian sanctions may not end any time soon so Gers can do their best to negotiate and bring the asking price down even further.

Right now, selling clubs have very little to do in terms of convincing their players to stay and Rangers will offer Cassierra European football next season.

They’re guaranteed to play in the Europa League and could even make it to the Champions League if they navigate their way past the qualifiers.

With Alfredo Morelos’ future up in the air, it does make sense for them to plan for reinforcements.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
