Steven Gerrard reacts as Steven Davis signs new Rangers deal
Steven Davis has received messages from Steven Gerrard and the Northern Ireland international side after signing a new contract at Rangers.
The club announced on Tuesday [31 May] that the 37-year-old midfielder had penned a one-year extension which will see him remain at Ibrox until next summer.
After the club announced the news over social media, former Rangers boss Gerrard sent the player he signed at Ibrox a message.

On the club’s official Instagram Gerrard responded with a clapping hands emoji whilst Northern Ireland’s official Instagram account commented: “Like a fine wine, congrats.”
Retained experience
With a big overhaul expected at Ibrox this summer and plenty of big names reportedly set to leave the club, retaining a player of Davis’ experience and quality is positive for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Davis won’t be a marquee player for the Gers this season, but retaining a player of his experience will be vital for any new and younger heads that make their way through the door at Ibrox.
Despite being 37, the midfielder featured in over 35 matches for Rangers in the 2021/22 season and is an excellent option for the Gers to call upon when needed.
This is likely to be the former Southampton man’s last season in professional football with the chances of him continuing when he’s nearing 40 being unlikely.

After two spells at Rangers spanning nearly eight years, it would make sense for the midfielder to move into the coaching staff at Ibrox once he decides to finally hang up his boots.
Northern Ireland’s most capped player will be looking to finish his playing career on a high and repeat Rangers’ remarkable 2021/22 campaign.
