Rangers could reportedly pursue a summer move for Bolton attacker Oladapo Afolayan if they have spare cash.
According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, he’s currently likely to join only if Ryan Kent leaves the club in the summer.
However, in case the club are willing to shell out some money, they could sign the 24-year-old Englishman as a backup.
Via his personal Twitter account, Nixon wrote, “Only if Kent goes I suspect. If there was spare cash you could do him as cover, if he fancied that.”
Sign him?
In a May 15 update, the journalist reported that Gers have already approached Bolton and made an enquiry over the possibility of a summer sale.
If they want to do a deal, it’s understood that they will have to shell out a fee in the region of £1.5million to get the player north of the border.
However, whether or not a League One attacker is a signing that Rangers should be making, is the million-dollar question.
As a backup to Kent, it does make a lot of sense as they can shell out more money to strengthen first-team positions which will be contingent on other exits.
But, if they eye the 24-year-old as a replacement for Kent, then there is a real danger of the club going backwards.
They cannot afford to make such glaring mistakes in the transfer market as Celtic are going to be strengthening their team as well and they will be having the additional money that comes from being in the Champions League.
In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
