Ross Wilson ‘outstanding’ business at Rangers thrills journalist as Cedric Itten heads for exit

Ross Wilson will be playing a blinder if Rangers pocket £1.5million for striker Cedric Itten, according to Islington Gazette journalist Josh Bunting.

The Daily Record reported on Sunday (28 May) that Itten, 25, is on the verge of making a move to BSC Young Boys in Switzerland, where he’s expected to sign a four-year deal.

Itten has struggled at Ibrox and spent the first half of this season on loan at Greuther Furth before being recalled and barely playing for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Rangers

Bunting feels that despite the Gers making a loss on Itten, they’ve done well to get the seven-figure fee for the Swiss striker.

“If Rangers get anywhere near in the region of [£]1.5million for Cedric Itten then that’s an outstanding bit of business, it just hasn’t worked out for the Swiss striker and if Young Boys pay that then Rangers will snap their hand off,” said Bunting via his personal Twitter account on Sunday (29 May).

“Brilliant from Ross Wilson getting that deal.”

Goodbye, Cedric

First and foremost we’re not going to criticise Itten’s work rate and professionalism at Ibrox because he’s never ever put a foot wrong in those regards.

However, he’s a player who is miles short of the quality that Rangers need to have and getting rid of him is a good move by Wilson.

However, he should never have been signed in the first place – nor should he have been recalled in January.

Itten will leave Ibrox having scored just eight goals in 49 appearances across all competitions.

While we appreciate he’s played mainly as a substitute for the Light Blues and has been forced out into wide areas at times, he’s never ever shown the kind of level that we need at Ibrox.

If he’s playing against Motherwell, that’s fine. Start him and he’ll get a few goals.

But against any other team, he’s not worth having around and that £1.5million – plus his wages – can go elsewhere towards strengthening the squad.

We wish Itten the best at Young Boys in Bern.

The ex-Basel and St Gallen striker has had success in Switzerland in the past and we’re sure he’ll do well in a league with less quality.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are on the verge of agreeing a new contract with this player.
