Rangers youngster Chris McKee departs club on a permanent deal

Rangers striker Chris McKee has departed the club to join NIFL club Linfield on a permanent deal, after spending time on loan in Northern Ireland.

The 20-year-old striker has never made a senior appearance for the Gers and spent the second half of the season on loan at the Northern Irish club.

McKee has been in good form for Linfield with six goals and one assist in the second half of the season.

It was confirmed by Rangers B & Academy Twitter account on Thursday [26 May] that the striker had departed Ibrox.

The tweet read: “Rangers can confirm Chris McKee has joined [Linfield] on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

“We wish Chris all the best for the future.”

Surprise

The Gers letting McKee leave after a profitable loan spell seems a strange move.

After struggling to make an impact, McKee has clearly found a home in Northern Ireland with the striker making a significant impact during the second half of the season.

However, with his Gers contract coming to its conclusion this summer, the Ibrox side clearly felt the striker wasn’t worthy of a new contract.

Rangers have a host of youngsters coming through the ranks and more could be done to see their young talent make an impact on the first team.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if a player like McKee goes on to be a success elsewhere.

However, Rangers selling youth products does provide the club with another source of income.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking to integrate his young talent into his plans this summer.

Rangers are set for a slight overhaul, with a number of players rumoured to be leaving the club.
