Rangers have been hit with another UEFA fine taking total punishment over £100,000

Rangers have been hit with another fine from UEFA, this time for their fans’ behaviour after their Europa League semi-final win over RB Leipzig.

As reported by the Glasgow Evening Times on Thursday [26 May], the Ibrox side have been given a £3,200 fine.

The fine was given due to fireworks being set off during and after their match against the German side.

The Irony

It seems a tad ironic that UEFA are charging Rangers for the actions of their fans after the Leipzig match when they couldn’t provide a safe environment for the final to take place in Seville.

There was reportedly a lack of water, inadequate toilet facilities and previously agreed items were taken off Rangers fans.

Rangers have already filed a complaint to Uefa and an independent regulator, but the chances of UEFA being punished or fined remain very slim.

The fines and systems that UEFA have in place evidently don’t work.

Pyrotechnics are consistently brought into football grounds around Europe and very little is done about it apart from the odd half-hearted fine.

Giving Rangers a fine of £3,200 is utterly pointless, that money would be better off going to charity.

Will fans stop acting in certain ways because they’re worried about their club receiving a minimal fine?

UEFA need to start leading by example, and that should start with being able to choose and stage a flagship event (Europa League final) without fans’ health being at risk.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
