Rangers and Celtic at loggerheads with Scottish fifth tier bosses over B players fiasco

Rangers, along with Hearts and Celtic are reportedly at loggerheads with the bosses of the Scottish Lowland League.

According to the Scottish Sun, the three teams responded when Scotland’s fifth tier launched an application process for guest clubs to join.

However, according to the Daily Mail, plans for a second season of B team action in the division are in disarray after the fifth division clubs voted to have two top flight times while all three have said that all of them will play or none of them will.

Rare unity

It’s rare to see Rangers and Celtic agree on something but that’s happening here for a change and it’s good to see.

Having B teams playing in the lower leagues is very good as it gives senior sides a chance to see how their players are doing competing week in and week out.

Last season, both the Glasgow sides had their teams playing with the fifth division at a cost of £25,000 each.

Alex Lowry is one player who certainly benefited from those games as it played a huge role in getting him to the Europa League squads.

But the lower league clubs are unwilling to now get the third team in and have also increased their demands to £40,000.

They’re failing to see how important it is to have Gers and other SPFL teams as it will be better for the overall intrigue and exposure of the league.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
