Chris Burke believes Rangers must not let Calvin Bassey leave for less than £25m
Chris Burke believes that Rangers should not sell left-back Calvin Bassey for anything less than £25 million.
The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League side Aston Villa in the summer.
While speaking on Sky Sports as quoted by Scottish Daily Express, the former Rangers midfielder drew parallels with Kieran Tierney’s transfer, for the same fee, from Celtic to Arsenal while explaining his point of view regarding the future of the Nigeria defender.

“It’s certainly a possibility but I hope not for Rangers’ sake,” he said when questioned about Bassey leaving. “At a young age, he cost less than £1million which was great recruitment from the club.
“If they do sell him it will be a lot of money. We talk about Kieran Tierney being in excess of £25m. Bassey would not be any less than that.”

Versatile
Bassey is one of the primary targets for Aston Villa’s manager Steven Gerrard ahead of next season.
The duo have previously worked together as well when Gerrard brought the 22-year-old to Ibrox in 2020.
Despite being a left-back, Bassey did well in the centre-back role during the season. His versatility is one of the major reasons why many clubs why many European clubs are interested in signing him.
He was one of the most reliable players at the back for Rangers, both in domestic and Europa League, while making 50 appearances for the club in the 2021-22 season.
Bassey’s performance in the final of the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt also impressed one and all despite his side ending up on the losing side.
If he is to leave the club in the summer transfer window, Rangers supporters will be hoping that their club will receive more than a decent sum which they can invest in strengthening the squad.
