Rory Wilson announces Rangers exit, plans to move to England

Rangers wonderkid Rory Wilson has announced he will leave Rangers this summer and plans to move to England and prove himself.

The 16-year-old scored 49 goals for club and country this season and has long been hyped as the next big thing to come out of the famous Ibrox academy.

But despite an offer to turn professional from the club, the young striker has now confirmed that he plans to move down south this summer and thanked Rangers for their help in developing him.

“Rangers have been brilliant for me,” he said, as quoted by Daily Record. “There’s no getting away from that. But it’s time to move on and get to the next level.

“I’d like to thank Rangers for everything they have done for me because it’s been great for me over the last eight years, but it’s time to leave.

“I’ll probably be going down south [England]. We’ll wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks. Everything will be sorted very soon.

“At Rangers, all the coaches have been fantastic for me. I can’t thank them enough for all their help.

“I want to go down south and try and prove myself and become a top player and that’s what I am going to do.

“I’ll have a break and get ready for next season now.

“I’ve really enjoyed my season. I’ve loved playing every minute of it. The season was great for me personally and to score that amount of goals was an extra bonus for me.”

Blow

This kid is truly special and it’s not often you find someone who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net so naturally at such a young age.

Reports suggest that former boss Steven Gerrard has moved swiftly to bring him to Aston Villa, surely knowing of him from his time at the club as recently as this season.

Considering Alfredo Morelos has just 12 months remaining on his contract while Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten have their futures up in the air too, there was a real chance for Wilson to break into the side in the near future.

But the money on offer from England, something Rangers simply can’t compete with, is likely to have been a factor as well as the fact the Premier League is of a far higher standard than the Scottish Premiership.

Now the club will hope to get as much compensation for him as they possibly can, and fans will have to watch him shine in a shirt that isn’t their own.
