Swiss Ramble compare Rangers UEFA earnings to Celtic for 2021/22 season

Swiss Ramble claim that Rangers received a fee believed to be in the region of £17million for their Europa League campaign.

Had they beaten Eintracht Frankfurt in the final, they were in line to receive a further 3million windfall in terms of prize money.

In comparison, Celtic received £9million for their group stage plus Conference League knockout round appearances and an additional UEFA coefficient payment in comparison to their city rivals.

Via their personal Twitter account, Swiss Ramble wrote, “A few people have asked how much #RangersFC earned for reaching the Europa League final. My estimate is £17m (€19.3m) TV money. Would have got another €4m if they had won the final.

“This compares to #CelticFC £9m (€10.5m) for group stage plus Conference League knockout round.

“Celtic FC earnings boosted by having a higher UEFA coefficient payment (€3.4m) than #RangersFC (€0.9m), as they are ranked higher based on performances in UEFA tournaments over the last 10 years (Celtic 38th vs Rangers 98th). Figures will be updated after this season.”

Big windfall

Reaching the final this season has been significant for Rangers in terms of their stature but also financially.

The club have endured hardships in the past and surely would not have accounted for a run to the Europa League final.

That money is always going to be welcome, especially when they’re likely to miss out on Champions League money.

The road to the group stages is tricky as they found out last season and they will have to navigate their way through qualifying rounds to get there.

Given the quality of teams they’ve beaten in the Europa League, they should back themselves against the sides in the qualifiers.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has done wonders to instil confidence in this side and we back him for a successful 2022/23 campaign.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
