Barry Ferguson wants more goals from Ryan Kent before Rangers offer him a new deal
Barry Ferguson believes Ryan Kent needs to add more goals to his game to earn a new contract at Rangers, as he enters the final 12 months of his deal.
Kent was a key figure in the Ibrox side’s success this season, registering 20 assists in all competitions as they reached the Europa League final and won the Scottish Cup.
But the 25-year-old notched just three goals this season and former Gers captain Ferguson told Go Radio that he needs to add more consistency and goals to his game before the club put big money on the table for him.

“The one thing I’ve always levelled against Ryan Kent is his consistency,” he said. “I need to see more from him, three goals this season isn’t good enough.
“Certainly with the ability he’s got. he’s a match winner, there’s no doubt about that, but I just want more.
“I’m greedy, I want more from him and I’m sure Gio will want more. If you ask Ryan himself he would want more from himself.
“That’s the only thing, it’s up and down a bit with him, it’s in the locker that he can be a match winner most weeks but I’m just not seeing enough of that.”
Deliver
Kent has been a terrific signing for Rangers since joining Steven Gerrard from Liverpool and has cemented himself as one of the first names on the team sheet under Giovanni van Bronckhorst too.
His pace, incredible dribbling and excellent final pass often gives him great reason to be picked regularly, but his lack of goals considering his abilities is certainly worrying.

Only three goals in a season where he played well over 40 games is a problem, especially considering the team is one that dominates the vast majority of games and controls the tempo and pace of the game.
Now though with 12 months left on his deal the club don’t necessarily have time to see if he can improve that, as they risk losing out on a good amount of cash if he were to leave for free.
If the manager believes he can improve his productivity next season then a new deal should be done, but the club must be careful not to put themselves in a position where they can’t replace him if he doesn’t step up.
